Statement of Job:

The Women and Gender Studies Program of the University of Southern Maine seeks to hire a feminist scholar for a tenure-track position at the Assistant level with expertise in intersectional feminist theories and methodologies as they pertain to the areas of science, health (public or environmental), and/or technology. This position begins in September, 2019.

Potential areas of interest include but are not limited to gender, science and technology; ecofeminism; and gender and public health. Responsibilities include maintaining active scholarship, teaching effectively, and providing service to the Women & Gender Studies program. The Program has a strong commitment to principles of diversity and actively encourages applications from candidates from groups underrepresented in higher education and/or whose research focuses on marginalized communities.

The successful candidate will teach Introduction to Women and Gender Studies, Rethinking Gender and Culture, advanced electives in the area of Science, Health and Technology for the Women and Gender Studies Program, and potential newly-designed courses that would cross-list with another academic department.

WGS at USM was the first, and continues to be one of the most robust, gender studies program in Northern New England with a faculty of feminist scholars from across the university.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. or equivalent in Women and Gender Studies or Ph.D. or equivalent in a related field with a specific concentration in/focus on WGS by time of appointment. Applicants should have a record of achievement in scholarship and teaching.
