Assistant Professor of Communication Studies
Appointment: Full-time, tenure-track position; begins Fall Term 2019. Responsibilities: The Department of Communication Studies at the University of Puget Sound is seeking a full-time tenure-track faculty member who is a teacher-scholar dedicated to undergraduate education in Critical Rhetoric and Film Studies with demonstrated potential to complement and enhance existing faculty research and teaching. This faculty member will contribute to our rhetorical/critical course curriculum. We encourage applications from candidates with expertise in critical and rhetorical media studies with concentration(s) in: rhetoric and film and/or film and memory. We also encourage applicants who demonstrate teaching and research interests in race and gender, and civic engagement with attention to âsocial movements.â The teaching load is 3-3 and the student to faculty ratio is 12:1. The successful candidate's primary responsibilities will be to teach a variety of courses including: 1) an introductory course in communication criticism (COMM 240), 2) a 100-level introductory communication course stemming from the candidate's area of expertise which also satisfies the University's general degree core requirement toward Humanistic Approaches, 3) an upper division course in rhetorical theory (COMM 344), and 4) upper division rhetorical and critical film electives stemming from the candidate's specific area of expertise, including a 400-level senior seminar for graduating majors. The candidate will also contribute to the University's first-year seminar core: Seminars in Scholarly Inquiry (SSI). Other duties include continuation of professional development and involvement in activities sponsored by the department and University. Qualifications: Ph.D. at the time of appointment. Applicants must demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and research with particular commitment to undergraduate teaching and liberal arts education.
