New York University Arts and Science

The Center for European and Mediterranean Studies in Arts and Science at New York University invites applicants for a Faculty Fellow position. The initial appointment will be for one year beginning September 1, 2019, renewable annually for a maximum of three years, pending administrative and budgetary approval.

CEMS seeks a scholar specializing in one or more of the following fields of Mediterranean Studies: comparative European and Mediterranean politics, anthropology, or sociology; or modern Mediterranean history. We are particularly interested in candidates with research and/or teaching interests concerning Southern Europe and the Mediterranean regions. Additionally, we would value academic interest in the European Union and issues of Mediterranean migration and cultural diversity. Responsibilities include teaching three graduate and undergraduate courses per year - possibly including a graduate research methods seminar and overseeing undergraduate independent studies.  The position also involves a significant role in advising theses for both master’s students and undergraduate honors majors. Service to the program will involve representing the Center at university occasions and committee meetings. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship and excellence in teaching, and have completed the Ph.D. no earlier than 2014 and no later than August 1, 2019.

All application materials should be submitted via Interfolio through the following link: apply.interfolio.com/51492. For more information about the NYU Center for European and Mediterranean Studies, please visit the website at http://cems.as.nyu.edu/page/employment.  Candidates must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, writing sample, three references, and a list of courses taught.  Diversity is an important part of the NYU mission. As part of your letter of interest, please provide a paragraph describing how diversity figures in your past and present teaching and research. Looking forward, how would you imagine bringing issues of diversity to bear on the teaching and programming concerns of NYU's Center for European and Mediterranean Studies?
