The Johns Hopkins University Krieger School of Arts and Sciences division of Advanced Academic Program ( seeks a dynamic full-time Program Director for its Master of Science in Applied Economics (Full-time, non-tenure) to lead the program through its next successful phase.

The Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) is a division of the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University (JHU). As the nation’s oldest and one of the most prestigious research universities, Johns Hopkins offers high-quality master’s degrees and post-baccalaureate education to students in the mid-Atlantic region and online. In addition to the online programs, AAP also offers master’s degrees and graduate certificate programs at its Washington, DC Center and at the Homewood campus in Baltimore, MD. AAP enrolls almost 5,000 students each academic year. The Program Director will work collaboratively with the Associate Dean for Advanced Academic Programs, Program Chairs, and other Senior academic leaders across the Krieger School and AAP to oversee a rigorous academic program offered to roughly 400 students each semester in a variety of formats including online and on-ground courses.


The Program Director position responsibilities are both instructional and administrative.

Faculty Duties

The Program Director will hold the academic rank of Senior Lecturer. The 12-month faculty appointment comes with a yearly teaching load of 3 courses. Faculty Duties also include academic program leadership, such as curriculum oversight, curriculum and course development and updates, student advising and other academic duties normally performed by full-time or regular part- time faculty such as sitting on thesis and search committees, thesis advising, attending academic events, and performing other types of academic service activities.

Administrative Duties

Responsibilities include:

  • Program budget management
  • Planning the degree curriculum
  • Overseeing new course and program development
  • Enrollment management and planning
  • Hiring, overseeing, and evaluating full-time and part-time faculty
  • Faculty Professional Development
  • Building faculty interaction/engagement
  • Responding to inquiries from prospective students and others
  • Conducting site-based and online student information sessions
  • Working with the Instructional Resource Center (IRC) to develop and evaluate online courses
  • Maintaining the supplies and equipment for field work and coordinating field trip budgets
  • Attending monthly Program Directors meetings
  • Collaborating with the appropriate Advanced Academic Program staff on operational issues related to program administration
  • Other duties as assigned

Allocation of Effort

The anticipated allocation of effort is as follows:

50% - Teaching
50% - Administrative

Qualified candidates must have an earned doctoral degree in the field. In addition, candidates should have at least seven or more years of relevant industry and/or teaching experience.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
