Position Title Adjunct Lab Instructor, Microbiology Department Science Location Lincoln Job Category Faculty Job Type PT Posting Number 01124 Position End Date
General Description of Position
Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean and Department Chair, the lab instructor is responsible for instructing students in microbiology laboratory. Possible teachings assignments include but are not limited to Microbiology and are based on experience and qualifications.
The instructor will be responsible for utilizing various teaching strategies maintaining accurate student records using the required LMS grade book, communicating with students, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide Instruction in Assigned Subject Areas
Provide instruction to students according to the objectives of each course assigned. The instructor will utilize a variety of instructional strategies in the lab that include, but are not limited to, lecture, small groups, engaged learning techniques, demonstrations, and student laboratory experiments.
Provide For Student Evaluation and Record Keeping
Maintain accurate student records on attendance, achievement, and progress.
Perform Other Functions Related to Teaching Assignments
Provide a safe laboratory work environment that includes the proper handling, storage and disposal of hazardous materials. Provide information and data that will assist in the preparation of supply and equipment order, course schedules, book orders, assessment of student learning, and other necessary reports. Prepare laboratory materials and set up lab equipment appropriate to areas of instruction. Maintain and store equipment when not in use.
Promote/Support Diversity Promote and support the College’s diversity goals; promote/support Access, Fair Employment, EEO, Equity and Diversity programs.
Promote/Support the Organizational Environment through Goal 9 of the Strategic Plan: Promote and support the College’s organizational environment goals. Maximize operational efficiency by enhancing policies and procedures, staffing, and communication processes and practices. Enhance positive communication processes and practices, and maximize a positive and engaging organizational environment by encouraging input, reflective and transparent communication, and compassion and respect toward the views and ideas of others.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree or higher in biology or microbiology.
Desired Qualifications
1. Experience as a teaching assistant or lab instructor in a biology or microbiology lab.
