General Description of Position

Under the general supervision of the Program Director/Lead, the Adjunct Instructor, will be required to complete SCC’s online training.

The instructor is responsible for instructing students in various Sociology courses in a classroom, online, and/or distance learning setting. Teaching assignments for this position include, but are not limited to: Introduction to Sociology, Women in Contemporary Society, Issues of Unity and Diversity, Diversity and Society, and Marriage and the Family.

The instructor develops course objectives, implements varied teaching strategies, advises students, monitors and evaluates student progress and keeps accurate student records.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 hours of graduate coursework in Sociology.
2. Teaching experience equivalent to 18 semester hours or 6 academic courses/sections at secondary or post-secondary level that applies directly to area(s) of instructional responsibility.

Desired Qualifications

1. Experience in teaching with technology, i.e., Internet, Interactive T.V., smartboards, lecture capture, and computer based instruction.
2. Certification or certification eligible to teach dual-credit courses.
3. Experience in teaching online/hybrid courses.
