Minimum Qualifications
  • Completed minimum of 18 hours towards Master’s Degree in College Student Development, Higher Education or related field.
  • Work, internship or practicum experience in career development, advising or first-year programming and housing/residence life experience;
  • A solid foundation in counseling skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to multi-task and take initiative;
  • Ability to lead and mentor students;
  • A commitment to inclusivity, diversity and social justice as demonstrated by success in program development and delivery;
  • A passion for working with first/second year and transfer/early college students.
License/Certification Required Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Career Counseling & Programming

  • Utilize a variety of tools and self-assessment inventories to provide one-on-one career counseling and follow-up to primarily first-year students who are deciding their majors/careers.
  • Support all career coaches in offering career development programming and presentations to classes, clubs, Greek organizations, and other student groups and clubs, especially those not connected to an academic college.
  • Serve on appropriate campus committees.
  • Participate and contribute to the Career Development Center’s priority to provide career and professional development support and programs to students who identify as a member of a traditionally underrepresented student population.
  • Assist with new student and transfer student orientation offering programming and workshops as needed.
  • Teaching career exploration classes may be an additional duty assigned, but will not be required or expected in the first year of employment.


Residence Life Programming and Engagement

  • Collaborate with Assistant Director for Residence Education to deliver career exploration and development programming that aligns with the Residential Learning Plan (a curricular model approach to programming in the residence halls). This will include assessment and evaluation.
  • Work closely with University Housing during June and July to prepare for implementing the Residential Learning Plan during the upcoming academic year as well as other duties as assigned in order to gain greater functional understanding of Housing operations during the summer.
  • Provide interest and personality assessment group sessions to Residence Life staff and students living on-campus (primarily first year students).
  • Develop and implement career services programs to all students living in residence halls with particular attention to providing career exploration programming to Residential Learning Communities.
  • Serve as liaison and conduct career exploration and development presentations to all housing organizations (Resident Assistant Council, Residence Hall Association, National Residence Hall Honorary)
  • Supervise temporary student employee (dependent upon fund availability).


Note: University housing in a campus apartment is required due to the nature of the position.

Suggested Salary Range $32,604 (11-month annual salary) Physical Demands of Position
