Assistant Professor / Ancient World

The Department of History at the University of Idaho is searching for a tenure-track assistant professor with emphasis upon the ancient world, broadly conceived. Period, region, and sub-fields are all open for consideration, but the candidate's research agenda should enhance the department's and university's strategic goals in terms of research and strategic enrollment. Possible specializations could include, but are not limited to, material culture, historical archaeology, public history, and history of science/medicine/technology.

Starting Date and Salary: The position begins in August 2018. Salary will range between $61,000-$64,000 and will be commensurate with training and experience.

Responsibilities and duties: Candidates must establish a successful research program, engage in teaching/advising, university service, and outreach/extension, as well as contribute to the interdisciplinary life of the university community.

Teaching load is 5 courses per annum. A successful candidate will develop an undergraduate curriculum in the ancient Mediterranean world. S/he will teach key benchmark classes in the department's assessment program, as well as offering coursework in the University's general education curriculum (such as the first-year integrated seminars). In addition, the candidate will contribute to graduate education, both in the department's MA and PhD programs and in related university signature research areas.

Qualifications:

Required:
Applicants should hold a doctorate in history or comparable field. The department can consider doctoral candidates who have completed all requirements and who will defend their dissertations by date of hire.

research and teaching interests which complement, and build upon, the department's present strengths;
strong potential for implementing interdisciplinary approaches in undergraduate and graduate instruction;
strong interest in interdisciplinary research and collaboration and working across the humanities and social sciences;
strong potential for research productivity, including publications, presentations, and grant writing;
demonstrated skill to interact effectively with students and faculty;
capacity to mentor effectively graduate students
