General Summary/Purpose
Research Support - Lead Research Staff Member that will support PI in developing “lab” and conducting research on two current grants. The Research staff member will use qualitative and quantitative research methods related to research focal area (patient safety, quality, health systems) that enables success working in both an independent manner as well as part of a collaborative team with collaborators at JHU and other institutions. In addition to research responsibilities, the Research Staff Member also plays a key role in various aspects of managing a developing research group of new senior faculty member. Expected to make significant/important contributions to various aspects of research efforts. This may include troubleshooting, independent decisions and training/guidance of other research group personnel as the team grows. Stay current on relevant published research and incorporate recent findings into the development of the group’s research. Strong in planning and execution, comfortable developing relationships and connections with multiple stakeholders at once, given the patient and funder-partnered research designs of the group’s projects.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Literature Reviews
Formulate and test key questions to guide literature review
Conduct literature searches on various patient safety, quality and health systems science topics using PubMed and other search engines
Review and critically evaluate the literature with respect to key research questions
Synthesize findings and prepare summary reports and tables
Assure rigorous and reproducible research documentation
Research Project Management and Dissemination
Assist with drafting and monitoring of IRB protocols for patient-partnered research
Develop communication plan and implement regular communications to keep project advisors and grant program officers well informed and engaged in applicable research projects
Manage agendas, note taking, and follow-ups for project-related and research group meetings and conference calls
Draft and edit manuscripts, including preparing and modifying tables, figures, and references for publication.
Data Acquisition and Analysis
Conduct semi-structured interviews with research participants
Prepare summaries in varying visual and narrative formats
Assist with coding and analysis of qualitative data
Prepare databases for analysis, including identifying, merging, data cleaning and diagnostics
Conduct data analysis and visualization as needed including but not limited to generating tables with descriptive statistics, cross tabulations, and regression models
Assure rigorous and reproducible research documentation
Grant
Development
Assist with proposal preparation as needed
Minimum Qualifications (Required)
Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
Some related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by theJHU Equivalency Formula:30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *
Preferred Qualifications
Some relevant experience or interest related to current research projects: patient-reported measures; disparities in care related to visible factors such as age, gender and race/ethnicity; and interventions to improve quality and safety during the patient’s diagnostic journeys.

Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
