Position Title Adjunct - Law Enforcement Academy FLSA Exempt Contract Length N/A Class Summary
The instructor will teach courses in the Basic Peace Officer Academy that are within their area of subject matter expertise.
Position Type Adjunct Employment Status Part Time Position Funding Regular Minimum Education/Training/Experience
TCOLE Licensed Basic, Intermediate, Advanced or Master Peace Officer Certificate; or holds an advanced degree in any field and two years of applicable experience.
At least two years non-teaching related work experience required.
It is recommended that each adjunct instructor hold a TCOLE Basic Instructor License or hold a license, a certification or some other documentation that indicates expertise, i.e. knowledge and skills, in a specialized area/topic of instruction as required by TCOLE .

Minimum Knowledge & Skills
- Experience with teaching or training delivery
- Police service related knowledge and experience
- Detailed knowledge of material being taught in the various courses of instruction offered
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to the interactions with students, coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc. to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work place direction.
- Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, as well as intermediate computer skills.
- Must be familiar with interactive teaching methods and instruction via the Internet.

Job Duties
- Instruct and supervise a diverse population of students in the classroom at various times and locations.
- Possess a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and oral.
- Prepare and utilize a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution.
- Maintain current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources.
- Assess students’ performance through a range of measurement activities and keeps them informed of their progress in a timely manner.
- Utilize technology to facilitate learning and to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others.
- Assist in the development, distribution and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives.
- Build positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community.
- Submit timely class reports and grades to the Coordinator of Law Enforcement Training.
- Exhibit a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in professional development activities.
- Adhere to the College of the Mainland’s policies and procedures.
- Attend departmental meetings as required for the position.

Physical Requirements
Positions in the classification of adjunct instructor for the Law Enforcement Academy typically require moderate to heavy physical activity. Examples of work may include:
- reaching, grasping, standing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, talking, hearing and seeing;
- instruction utilizing instructional material and police related equipment, i.e. batons, handcuffs, firearms, defensive pads and operating a motor vehicle in low, moderate and high speed situations.
