McMurry University invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor in History (1 year, renewable up to 3 years) to begin in August 2018.

We provide a strong, active, and tailored liberal arts education through small class sizes and intentional relationships between students and their faculty mentors.

Located in a community of 120,000 with three other universities in town, and a short two-hour drive west of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, we support purposeful and practical academic experiences in and out of the classroom that leverage this location as students pursue personal, intellectual and professional growth.

This new hire will join the department and the college at a time of exciting change. The historically strong History program is committed to delivering fundamentals needed in the market today through increasingly immersive and hands-on methods of teaching and learning.

McMurry is embarking on a similar initiative campus-wide.

The ideal candidate is a generalist with a demonstrated interest in the Western Tradition who can teach introductory level courses on World History and upper-level history courses that may include the Greco-Roman Classical Period as well as Early European History, British History, and other World History topics in line with your research and expertise and aligned with the department curriculum. Typical teaching load is 4/4 (24 semester hours a year) with opportunities to teach travel classes in May and over the summer. Broad service to the college, such as advising and committee work, is also required.

PhD is required for candidates.

College-level teaching experience is preferred.

Candidates who can demonstrate a dedication to teaching, the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the College’s continuing commitment working with undergraduates in a small-college liberal arts setting will be given preference.
