Objective
Provide instruction and clinical supervision to students in the Certified Medication Aide Program. Prepare students to succeed in the healthcare field and pass the state examination required for licensure.
Essential Duties
Conduct classroom and clinical training of medication aide students leading up to certification. Instruct students in classroom and lab settings. Adhere to state curriculum issued by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services. Maintain required student records including attendance, grading, student progress, and skills training. Work under the general direction of the program director. Confer with the program director regarding attendance, grading, student progress, clinical site coordination, state licensing examination scheduling, and other pertinent information essential to the medication aide training program.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Qualifications include possession of an active RN license and at least two years of nursing experience in a long term care facility as a nurse, nurse aide, medication aide, or direct care staff person.
Preferred Experience and Training
Knowledge of long term care facility regulations on the administration of medication. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively present information to students. Ability to utilize various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations. Ability to plan, coordinate, manage, direct classroom, skills lab, and clinical training experience for students.
Physical Requirements Required Degree, License or Certifications
Associate’s degree with major emphasis in Nursing Assistant or related courses required. Licensure in the State of Texas as an RN. Two (2) years of experience caring for individuals in a long-term care setting or as an instructor in a school of nursing.
