Assistant Professor, Learning and Leadership
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC), with a current enrollment of 12,000 students, is seeking to fill a position in the doctoral program in Learning and Leadership within the College of Health, Education and Professional Studies.
This is a twelve-month, full-time, Assistant Professor appointment that requires instruction, candidate advising, as well as supervising multi-disciplinary research at the graduate level.
The doctoral program is a competency based, multi-disciplinary doctorate. The curriculum is work/experience embedded. Everyone pursuing the degree is actively working and engaged in various areas of professional practice.
Unlike a number of doctoral programs that may allow evaluation projects or large program assessments as a capstone event, this program includes a full research dissertation. All coursework, deliverables, and milestone accomplishments are based on our participants' ability to demonstrate scholar-practitioner competency in a number of specific domains.
We see learning as transformative relative to human behavior and cognition in multiple venues. Beyond traditional learning theory, we explore theory and concepts that extend beyond most participants' formal education. From a Leadership perspective we believe that leadership is a shared process based on organizational goals and measurable outcomes, not the study of the individuals with positional power often viewed as leaders / bosses / great men. The successful candidate will hold an earned doctorate Ph.D., Ed.D. (or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g. Quantitative Research Methods, Leadership, Psychology). Evidence of expertise and research productivity in one or more areas in the context of leadership, decision-making, or other disciplines in the social sciences. The candidate should also demonstrate general knowledge and experience in teaching Research Methodology, Applied Research, and/or Applied Statistics at the doctoral level and provide evidence of contribution to national professional organizations. Experience in the use of Learning Management Systems is required.
The preferred candidate will have experience in the dissertation process and will show evidence, experience, and skill in facilitating learning through the use of instructional technology (synchronous and asynchronous). Experience with Bayesian statistics; predictive analytics, and/or data mining is preferred.
