The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV is expanding its faculty with two tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. Appointment at a higher rank is possible for applicants holding significant transferable extramural funding. The candidates will be expected to develop an extramurally funded research program, and to participate in the educational mission of the University through teaching in graduate and professional programs with a joint appointment in one of the basic sciences departments at the WVU School of Medicine.

The Department Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is an integral part of the WVU School of Medicine, located in Morgantown, West Virginia. Our strengths include the collaborative nature of faculty in various departments within the university and other institutes in the region, excellent support system for early career scientists in proposal development, and close collaboration with physicians for translational work with excellent clinical research support staff and an established Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI).

Morgantown is conveniently located within a short drive from several renowned research centers. Qualifications :

A higher rank applicant will be considered as well with significant extramural funding. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. We seek candidates with PhD or MD/PhD degrees in Biomedical Sciences or in a closely related field with at least three (3) years of productive postdoctoral experience, and research programs focused on fundamental biological processes of the visual system. Priority will be given to applicants with innovative research programs that have immediate impact on our understanding and treatment of blinding diseases. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment. State of the art laboratory space, modern research core facilities, highly competitive startup packages, and salaries that include a significant state-funded component will be offered.
