The Center for Disability Services ( CDS ) coordinates a note taking service for students whose documented disabilities have an impact on their ability to take notes.

As a Note Taker you will support the academic needs of a student with a disability by providing clear and accurate notes as a record of lectures or classes. Students may have difficulties taking notes for a number of different reasons, for example sight or hearing impairments, specific learning difficulties or because writing is difficult and painful. Notes are essential tools for learning and revision, therefore the work of a Note Taker provides vital support. (Notes are typed (with the exception of some math and/or science courses involving math and/or scientific equations/notation).

Note Taker responsibilities include:

To provide the student with a clear, accurate and full account of the information conveyed in classes where it is necessary to take notes.

To ensure notes are clear and comprehensive.

To provide notes to the student in an agreed format to meet their needs (typed, PowerPoint, outlines etc.)

To complete and return relevant paperwork accurately and promptly.

To work in a professional, helpful and flexible manner, maintaining confidentiality at all times.

To correspond with the Center for Disability Services ( CDS ) on an ongoing basis, in order to accurately monitor support, notification of absences and changes to availability.

Hours can vary based on the student’s needs; Position requires a flexible schedule.

Note Takers are paid an hourly rate for note taking.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent communication skills

Knowledge of Microsoft Office

Able to develop positive rapport with students

Desire to assist others

Ability to work on own initiative, independently and to meet deadlines

Minimum Qualifications:

Academic excellence in Writing and/or Mathematics; 2.7 GPA

Applicants must be a currently enrolled Auburn University at Montgomery Student.
