The Department of Religious Studies at Bates College invites
applications for a one-year sabbatical replacement position, to
teach in Jewish Studies and Christianity Studies,
beginning September 1, 2018. The teaching load is five courses
over two semesters: 2-3 or 3-2. Area of specialization is open; and
specialists in either or both areas of study are equally encouraged
to apply. Ph.D. preferred; ABD considered. Applicants should
demonstrate a strong commitment both to teaching undergraduates in
a liberal arts setting and to scholarly research. The college’s
mission statement celebrates “the transformative power of our
differences.” Accordingly, we believe that campus diversity
contributes to student learning and we embrace our college’s aim to
extend access to a Bates education to an ever wider range of
students. Candidates who can add substantive diversity of thought
and/or experience and who can contribute to supporting an
increasingly diverse student body are especially encouraged to
apply. To be fully considered, please describe how you will
contribute to these goals in your cover letter and/or
statements.
Review of applications will begin in February 1, and will
continue until the position is filled. Applicants should submit a
cover letter, a curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation,
statement of teaching philosophy and prospective course offerings,
graduate transcripts, and a representative sample of course syllabi
and research scholarship via Interfolio at the following link:
