Assistant/Associate/Full Professor - Director, Bower Lyman Center for Medically Complex Children
The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Florida College of Medicine —Jacksonville, in partnership with Wolfson Children’s Hospital, seeks a full-time pediatrician with demonstrated experience and success in the care of complex children and health services administration to be the Medical Director of the Bower Lyman Center for Medically Complex Children. The academic appointment will be a tenure/non-tenure accruing level of Assistant/Associate or Full Professor depending upon experience and qualifications. The Center consists of two intersecting Medical Homes for children with complex medical and behavioral health conditions, the Complex Care Clinic for children birth to age 18 and JaxHATS (Jacksonville Health and Transition Services), a Health Care Transition program for youth ages 16-26 with complex medical and/or behavioral conditions. The Center works in close partnership with our Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation program and integrates on-site behavioral health professionals into comprehensive care.
The Center is well established and receives significant recurring support through endowments. The Center provides care for over 800 established patients and has the potential for significant growth. The successful candidate will provide the following: a) clinical expertise in the care of children with complex medical conditions, primarily in the outpatient setting; b) direction with respect to program development and continuous quality improvement; c) administrative expertise, including management of fiscal, operational, and productivity outcomes: d) development and support of integrated faculty research initiatives; and e) expanded educational opportunities for medical students, residents, and fellows. The Center currently collaborates with an accredited fellowship program in Adult and Pediatric Hospice and Palliative Medicine. There is opportunity to develop a novel fellowship in Complex Care. Medical students, residents, fellows and other health professional trainees rotate through the Center.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise and success in the care of children and youth with complex medical conditions, experience in health services administration, and have demonstrated an ability to work with diverse academic and community collaborating organizations and agencies. Ideally, the candidate will have experience implementing trauma informed systems of care and a commitment to advancing the rights of children with complex medical conditions and disabilities. The candidate must also have an interest in working nationally and internationally in advancing the rapidly evolving discipline of Complex Care. The position will report to the Chief of the Division of Community and Societal Pediatrics and to the Department Chair, and integrate with other initiatives in the Division.
