Amherst College has profoundly diversified its student body; today, nearly one-quarter of Amherst's students are Pell Grant recipients and 45 percent of our students identify as domestic students of color. Our expectation is that the successful candidate will excel at working in a community that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in geoscience and expertise in one or more of the following fields: sedimentology, stratigraphy, paleontology, climate science, aqueous geochemistry, hydrogeology, or geomorphology. The successful candidate is expected to teach three courses with labs per year and to supervise students in independent research leading to honors theses. Teaching responsibilities will include one or two topical introductory courses that are aimed at non-majors and one or two mid- to upper-level courses with labs for geology majors.
