Assistant Scientists in Molecular Magnetic Quantum Materials (code development) (56793)
The Department of Physics at the University of Florida (UF) seeks one full-time, twelve-month, time-limited, non-tenure track Assistant Scientist in Computational Materials Physics in the Center for Molecular Magnetic Quantum Materials (M2QM), to be renewed on a year-to-year basis contingent on performance, and funding. The position could begin as soon as February 2020 and would be supported by non-state funding. M2QM is an Energy Frontier Research Center funded by the US Department of Energy ( https://science.energy.gov/bes/efrc/ ). The successful candidate for the position will be responsible for code development, including electron transport with spin-orbital interaction, effective medium screening, and parallel implementation with MPI and OpenMP.
The candidate is expected to support the center Principal Investigators (PIs) in leading a group of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers who work on the theory and modeling of magnetic system in M2QM. The candidate is also expected to coordinate monthly zoom meetings and assist in annual progress reports and workshop organization with the collaboration.
The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in Physics or a closely related field and have postdoctoral research experience in atomistic theory. Candidates should be familiar with magnetism in low-dimensional systems such as magnetic molecules and two-dimensional magnetic systems. An excellent track record in scientific research is required. In addition, candidates must show excellent advanced computational implementation skills, including coding, parallel computing, and preferably utilizing GPU.
All candidates must apply online through http://apply.interfolio.com/71990 . A complete application will include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae with publication list, a research statement of past and present activites, and three confidential letters of reference.
