The Women in Engineering ProActive (WEPAN) seeks applicants and nominations for the position of Executive Director.

 WEPAN is a non-profit educational organization founded in 1990 to be a catalyst for change to enhance the success of women in the engineering professions. WEPAN is the leading champion in North America for leveraging research and promising practices to propel the inclusion of women in the field of engineering. WEPAN’s network connects over 1000 advocates who actively pursue strategies and implement solutions to increase participation, retention and success of women and other underrepresented groups in engineering from college to executive leadership.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for providing leadership, direction and guidance of WEPAN’s activities, members, and member organizations. The Executive Director will continuously analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of all organization operations including the funding model, organizational structure and personnel. Fundraising, outreach and marketing are three key areas of focus.  S/he will coordinate major activities through subordinates, consultants, and member-volunteers. The position requires proactive management, sound fiscal judgment, and a commitment to inclusivity and diversity.  The Executive Director represents WEPAN and its mission to regulatory bodies, other agencies, community and civic organizations, donors, funders and supporters, and the general public, and will work collaboratively, think strategically, and act responsibly to ensure long-term success of the organization.

The ideal candidate should:

  • Lead, inspire, and motivate others through relationship building, presentations, and representation
  • Be accomplished in developing and executing plans to secure financial resources to sustain an organization
  • Have expert knowledge of higher education issues as well as industry issues. Past or current employment at an institution of higher education or a non-profit and experience in professional society leadership positions are beneficial but not required.
  • Communicate with and inspire WEPAN’s core audiences of academic leaders, faculty, corporate leaders and influencers
  • Produce research and supporting data that creates value for WEPAN, its members, and its mission; be knowledgeable of the history, research, and its applications to women in engineering and computing as well as gender equity issues in STEM broadly.

 

Position requirements include:

  • An advanced degree, preferably an earned doctorate in a field within WEPAN’s sphere of interest.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progression in full-time leadership and management responsibility in complex organizations
  • Proven ability to secure major long-term funding for an organization; and demonstrated successful grant writing experience and budget management.
