The Los Rios Community College District is the second-largest, two-year public college district in California, serving approximately 75,000 students in the greater Sacramento region. Position Summary

General Responsibilities:
The adjunct faculty member shall be responsible for the following: coordination of instructional programs and/or teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance, including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; and fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member as outlined in the college faculty handbook.

Assignment may include instructing classes, which could result in an Instructional/Coordinator split assignment.

Assignment Responsibilities

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
● Providing continuing educational support services to students with disabilities.
● Overseeing Disabled Students Programs and Services ( DSPS ) planning, activities, evaluation, researching and recommending equipment purchases.
● Coordinating and overseeing operations with staff.
● Promoting campus-wide and community awareness of adaptive technology issues and resources available on-campus to students, staff, and faculty.
● Promoting effective learning through the use of high technology, alternative learning environments and outcome measures of student success.
● Coordinating Learning Disabilities Program.
● Surveying the needs of present and prospective students with disabilities.
● Representing the needs of DSPS students on appropriate college committees, with instructional divisions, and with all student services areas.
● Collecting and processing required data that will assist in the development of appropriate funding reports related to students with disabilities and for program accountability.
● Recruiting, training, and coordinating of DSPS staff.
● Serving as liaison to the Department of Rehabilitation and the State Chancellor’s Office.
● Serving as a member of appropriate campus and community advisory committees.
● Advising and consulting with the American with Disabilities Act ( ADA ) Officer and other administrators regarding interpretation and implementation of ADA regulations.
● Developing special curriculum and schedule courses for students with disabilities (i.e., learning disabled and physically disabled) in cooperation with the various divisions of instruction.
● Serving as a resource to faculty to accommodate students’ needs (i.e., equipment, supplies, etc.) and educating faculty about disabilities.
● Assisting the dean and facilities staff with architectural barrier removal planning and review.
● Developing and maintaining close working relationships with instructional areas, outreach centers, feeder high schools, neighboring colleges and community resource agencies.
● Articulating programs with feeder high schools.
● Fostering good high school/college relations.
● Performing other related duties as assigned.

The assignment may include day, evening, online, hybrid, weekend, and/or off-campus work and/or hours.

Have a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in the Category of Learning Disabilities, Special Education, Education, Psychology, Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, Educational or School Psychology, Counseling, or Rehabilitation Counseling; OR, the equivalent*; AND Fifteen-semester units of upper-division or graduate study in the area of disability, to include, but not be limited to:

A. Learning disabilities
B. Developmental disabilities
C. Deaf and hearing impaired
D. Physical disabilities
E. Adapted computer technology

Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
