The Department of Art History in the College of Fine Arts at Florida State University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Assistant Professor in Global Contemporary Art. This is a full-time, tenure-track position with a 2-2 teaching load. Candidates must have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment, teaching experience, and a dynamic and ambitious program of research and scholarship. Appointment begins in August 2018.

We seek candidates whose work demonstrates a critical approach to contemporary arts and globalization. The research and teaching areas may be grounded in a particular geographic area that complements those of existing faculty, but the applicant should be able to demonstrate expertise in an area of concern in current scholarship on globalization, whether that is the circulation and migration of cultural forms; the intersections of local, regional, and international identities; the internationalization of cultural forms; diasporic movement; hemispheric context; colonialism, post-colonialism, and decolonization; global networking; transnationalism; or the impact of global media culture.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching a variety of area-specific courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, advise and supervise graduate students at the masters and doctoral levels, and contribute to the intellectual life of the university. The candidate may also have the opportunity to teach during summers at one of FSU’s international study centers in London, England; Florence, Italy; Panama City, Republic of Panama; and Valencia, Spain; or in major-specific programs offered in other cities throughout the world.

Application Deadline: January 1, 2018
