Job Description

The Assistant Director for Recruitment oversees a team based in the University Admissions office that does first-year undergraduate recruitment related activities in Arizona and throughout the country. Additionally, this position will collaborate and coordinate with the Director of University Admissions, and other Assistant Directors (Graduate Recruitment, Diversity Recruitment, Phoenix & Tucson Recruitment, Off-Campus Regional Recruitment, and Transfer Recruitment), on recruitment and outreach activities. This position reports directly to the Director of University Admissions. This person will also be responsible for helping to set enrollment targets, tracking progress toward targets, and generating detailed reports relevant to enrollment management. Additional duties include maintaining currency with national best practices. The Assistant Director for Recruitment is responsible for the following.

Leadership and Strategic Planning - 30%
  • Provides leadership, direction, and vision for the On-Campus Based Recruitment team consisting of 1-2 Managers and 6-9 Student Recruitment and Retention Coordinator, Srs.
  • Works in collaboration with the Director of University Admissions to identify new recruitment territories/markets to outreach to in an effort to continue to grow university enrollment in-state and out-of-state.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with the Analytics and Assessment team to develop recruitment related reports to help organize recruitment efforts, identify recruitment opportunities, and meet enrollment goals.
  • Collaborates and develops partnerships with academic colleges and other work units to meet University enrollment goals.
  • Sets short-range and long-range enrollment goals for territories their team is responsible for in consultation with the Director of University Admissions.
  • Use reports through Business Objects, Enterprise Reporting, PeopleSoft, and Salesforce to analyze and report on effectiveness of recruitment efforts.
  • Works as a lead with key vendors, and under the direction of the Director of Undergraduate Recruitment to help achieve enrollment goals. These services may include the purchase of student names, development of promotional materials, communications to prospective students and their families, and advertising opportunities.
  • Draft policies and procedures as related to recruitment area within University Admissions.
  • Serves as member of the University Admissions Leadership Team by participating in strategic planning, staffing decisions, and other key functional areas: recruitment, communications, and prospect management.
  • Stay current on local, regional, and national trends pertaining to area of assignment.

Recruiting and Advising - 30%
  • Works with high school counseling personnel to promote academic programs and opportunities that the University provides.
  • Manages a recruitment territory(s) and counsels, guides, and advises prospective students and families in the completion of complex admission and financial aid forms, admission requirements, transfer guidelines, cost of attendance, financial aid programs, and various other student and enrollment related services, programs and opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with the EM Communications team and to develop appropriate recruitment materials for student recruitment.
  • Counsel, guide, and advise prospective students and families in the completion of complex admission and financial aid forms, admission requirements, transfer guidelines, cost of attendance, financial aid programs, and various other student and enrollment related services, programs and opportunities.

Programs and Training - 20%
  • Assist with the execution of on-campus visit programs as needed, including but not limited to Discover NAU, Explore Honors Day, Multicultural Recruitment Programs, and transfer student programming.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with University Admissions Processing to provide training and information for professional recruitment staff to help them carry out their job responsibilities.

Travel - 15%
  • Attend statewide, regional, and national recruitment events both in-person and virtually.

Other - 5%
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Three years of experience in higher education admissions and/or enrollment management.
  • Two years of management or supervisory experience.
  • The applicant must possess a valid Arizona drivers' license or be eligible for one by date of hire. Additionally, a good driving record is required.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution AND at least one year experience in higher education admissions and/or enrollment management.
  • Progressively responsible experience in graduate or professional school enrollment management and recruitment or similar activities with undergraduate student populations or other relevant experience.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Salesforce CRM, PeopleSoft Student Information System, Business Objects and Enterprise Reporting tools, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with database systems and with report generation.
  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Skill in problem solving and decision making.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and productive working relationships with on-campus and off-campus partners.

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Salary range begins at $72,445. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

Benefits

This is a Service Professional (SPF) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System or the Optional Retirement Program; 22 days of vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. Service Professionals are hired on a contract basis, renewable each 6 months according to terms of the Conditions of Professional Service. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. If a new employee chooses the ASRS retirement option, participation in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, will begin on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), which is an alternative to the ASRS plan for faculty and other appointed staff, will begin to participate on the first day of employment. Additionally, the long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of employment.
