About the Opportunity

Summary and Responsibilities:

The Software Application Developer designs, codes, tests and deploys applications, systems, and new technologies that facilitate and expand the ability of administrative staff, faculty and researchers of Gordon-CenSSIS, and its affiliates, including the ALERT (Awareness and Localization of Explosives-Related Threats) DHS Emeritus Center of Excellence (COE), Engineering PLUS NSF INCLUDES Alliance (Engineering PLUS) and the SENTRY (Soft-target Engineering to Neutralize the Threat Reality) DHS COE, to enter, process and access research and administrative data.

Application needs include collection and reporting systems for funders, collaborative workspaces for staff and researchers, dynamic access and processing of center and research data, event registration and processing. Existing applications require in-depth knowledge of ASP.NET, MATLAB, and Python. All database implementation work will be done on MSSQL.

Responsibilities of this position include:
  • Designing, developing and maintaining external and internal applications and associated databases for the Center's administrative and research infrastructure.
  • Successful and regular interaction with staff and researchers to identify requirements and functionality of software applications and database needs.
  • Troubleshooting PC operations, including connectivity, hardware and software problems for users. The candidate will also assist in the configuration and installation of new equipment and software, installing OS patches and updates, and maintaining inventory of all systems and equipment.


Highly Skilled programmer/analyst sought. Requires 3-5 years of software development and/or programming experience, database administration and client-based computer support. This position requires strong communication skills, experience in a windows development environment (Windows Server, Visual Studio, ASP.NET, IIS, MSSQL, PHP), VB.NET, jQuery, CSS, HTML, XML, MATLAB, python and Tier I & II technical support. Experience with SharePoint, InfoPath, WordPress, and installing and maintaining Windows SQL Server or IIS Server a plus.

This individual reports to the Center's Senior Director of Research Computing and Technical Program Development and works closely with them to design primary architecture, workflows and applications to service the researchers and staff of the center.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will hold a minimum of a Bachelor's degree, ideally in Computer Science or a related field. The candidate must have a minimum of three to five years' experience with the following: Windows development environment (Windows Server, Visual Studio, ASP.NET, IIS, MSSQL, PHP), C#, C++, VB.NET, CSS, HTML, XML, MATLAB, Python and Tier I & II technical support within a heterogeneous office environment. Experience with SharePoint, InfoPath, WordPress, and installing and maintaining Windows SQL Server or IIS Server a plus.

Ideal candidate has demonstrated ability to work well directly with customers and teams in a matrix managed environment. The prospective candidate has the ability to successfully manage multiple projects and activities. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
