Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the Dean, the Department Head provides leadership and service to the department, the college and the university community while contributing to a positive collegial culture.

The Department Head leads the department and participates in outreach activities engaging with stakeholders throughout the state, accounting professionals and academic colleagues consistent with the UI’s mission as a land-grant institution. This position performs duties in support of university, college, and department stakeholders; leads the Accounting Program AACSB Accreditation process, program assessment efforts, and performs the duties of the Director of the Master of Accountancy Program (MACCT).

In addition, the Department Head teaches the equivalent of two 3-credit sections per year, assuming responsibility for outcomes, curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment, and provides syllabi to the dean’s office each semester. The Department Head also provides academic and career advice to student advisees assigned to them, with particular attention given to students in the MACCT program.

The Department Head maintains an active research agenda, averages a minimum of two accepted publications per five years in acceptable peer reviewed journals and makes one or more additional intellectual contributions per year.

The administrative appointment is temporary and the employee may return to the faculty appointment upon 60 days notice.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Earned Doctorate in Accounting, Management information Systems or allied field
  • Record of academic excellence in scholarship and teaching that merits appointment as an associate or full professor with tenure in the College of Business and Economics.
  • Evidence of effective leadership, communication, relationship building and interpersonal skills.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Evidence of successful administrative experience in higher education.
  • Relevant certification (e.g., CPA, CMA, CIA)
  • Ability to maintain and build relationships with alumni and the business community.
  • Ability to contribute as a team member and effectively supervise personnel and steward departmental resources.
  • Successful administrative experience in higher education.
