Basic Function

The Senior Director of Advancement & Alumnae/Alumni Engagement is responsible for overseeing major giving, annual giving and alumnae engagement goals for the Office of Institutional Advancement. Working directly with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and University Communications the Senior Director will provide leadership and best-practice strategies to achieve the annual and campaign philanthropic goals of the University. The Senior Director is responsible for actively driving annual and major gifts fundraising efforts, while managing a portfolio of 75-90 major and planned gift prospects and donors. This position will also oversee the Office of Alumnae & Alumni Engagement, and supervise activities and strategies to grow and strengthen the coordination between alumnae engagement and the fundraising departments. The ideal candidate will be an experienced fundraiser and a self-directed team leader who cultivates strong relationships with alumnae/alumni, donors, and prospects to deepen engagement and increase philanthropic support for the University. Participation in the fast paced environment includes some weekend and evening hours, as well as occasional travel for face-to-face visits with donors and prospects.

Essential Functions

1. With the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Communications and Notre Dames leadership team, provide energy, strategic focus, innovation and daily direction to successfully achieve goals of the Notre Dame Fund and University campaigns.
2. Work closely with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Communications on innovative strategies for the ongoing enhancement of fundraising and constituent relations to maximize the Universitys potential.
3. Work closely with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Communications to build, sustain and lead a high-performing, diverse and entrepreneurial fundraising and alumnae engagement team focused on achieving excellence as measured by performance indicators, achievement of goals, and year-over-year growth.
4. Work with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Communications to support the President, Trustees, and other University leaders as partner, resource and coach for major and campaign gift solicitations and communications strategy development for annual, major and campaign gifts.
5. Work with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Communications to create, manage, and drive all campaign fundraising platforms and programs, including challenge matches, public announcement fundraising plans, and campaign naming opportunities.
6. Oversees the creation and execution of the Alumnae & Alumni Engagement Plan.
7. Works with the Director of Alumnae & Alumni Engagement to incorporate alumnae and alumni relations into giving and stewardship strategies.
8. Organize and oversee all Notre Dame annual fund and campaign committees in a productive, timely manner.
9. Manage a portfolio of 75-90 major and planned giving prospects: identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors.
10. Oversee, guide, and monitor implementation of the overall annual fund and campaign plan and timetable including the appropriate phase activities and goals, gift tables, volunteer needs, and major responsibilities to guide and manage detailed and robust activity.
11. Lead efforts to engage the University with its various constituencies, with a special focus on maximizing philanthropic potential of alumnae and alumni from Womens College, adult undergraduate and graduate, friends, and longstanding partners of the University.
12. Expand the Universitys capacity for philanthropic growth by mobilizing administrators, faculty, staff, and SSNDs in advancement efforts.
13. Working with Communications and Marketing staff colleagues, oversee the design and production of annual fund and campaign promotional and operational resources, including collateral materials, the case for support, leadership gift request prospectus and letters, and annual fund and campaign communications, as needed.
14. Work with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Communications to create briefings that review and evaluate annual and campaign activities and progress, identify concerns, recommend corrective actions, and outlines essential activities and goals.
15. Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required.

Job Qualifications

Knowledge: Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years experience in a leadership position of similar responsibility and authority with proven track record of fundraising success, preferably in higher education. Must have experience in annual or campaign giving, as well as direct solicitation experience in major and/or planned giving. Experience managing a team towards achievement of measurable goals is preferred.

Skills/Aptitude: Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel and comfortable navigating a donor database. Must be a comfortable and confident public speaker, capable of conducting/facilitating meetings, adept at working with people from a wide variety of ages, races and socioeconomic levels. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and to achieve results in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Outstanding leadership and organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines. Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written. A background in fundraising/nonprofit management required, with some experience leading a team in annual, major and/or planned giving.

Working Conditions: Normal on-campus office environment. Some evenings and weekends required. Limited regional and national travel required with advance planning.
