  • Post-secondary training in a field relating to STEPS knowledge domains including natural, physical and social sciences, education, psychology, statistics, team science, science, and technology studies.
  • Conferred Ph.D. preferred; would also consider a candidate that is an excellent fit for this research who is finishing their doctorate, and would find this research a valuable topic for their dissertation work.

N/A Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Research Institute for Environment, Energy, and Economics ( RIEEE ) is an interdisciplinary institute devoted to pushing the boundaries of current knowledge at the interface of science and society.

RIEEE connects, supports, and amplifies research throughout Appalachian State University on the environment, energy, economics, and the equity that must underpin them in sustainable solutions and all of their complex intersections. We increase research capacity and impact, elevate AppState's profile and collaborative opportunities and lead in strategic priority areas of sustainability research.
The Institute is comprised of a small number of full-time staff and a large number of affiliated faculty from across campus and serves as an umbrella organization for the Appalachian Energy Center, the Center for Economic Research and Policy Analysis, and the Southern Appalachian Environmental Research and Education Center.

We seek a highly motivated and collaborative researcher to contribute to research on convergence and research pedagogy in practice, as applied to the wicked problem of global phosphorus (P) sustainability.

The Convergence Research Postdoctoral Scholar position will help the STEPS Integration Team develop, employ and evaluate team science and transdisciplinary methods designed to foster convergence, filling a gap in knowledge that connects theory and applied methods to observations of efficacy and impact in real knowledge-producing teams.

The RIEEE STEPS CR Postdoctoral Scholar will contribute to research in the theory, methods, and evaluation of applied team science and transdisciplinary integration, such as: 1) team development and engagement with Convergence Boundary Objects (e.g. shared language, infographics, data), 2) individual engagement with key convergence-relevant Habits of Mind (epistemic humility, interdependence, and co-production of knowledge) 3) deployment of the Convergence Toolkit, a STEPS -wide set of resources that enable the uptake and adoption of integration and implementation science methodologies.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, analysis and evaluation of team science and transdisciplinary integration strategies deployed in the STEPS center;
  • Coordinate across multiple mentors of different background expertise within the Center-wide Integration Team;
  • Lead efforts to communicate and disseminate research findings by publishing peer-reviewed manuscripts and making presentations;
  • Contribute to proposals for research funding leveraging STEPS work;
  • Potential for instructional duties as part of a team-taught multidisciplinary research experience course for undergraduates at Appalachian State.
Suggested Salary Range $48,000-$57,000 Physical Demands of Position
