Assistant Vice President for Scholarships and Annual Giving

 

Position Summary:

 

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Vice President for Scholarships and Annual Giving, Boca Raton, FL.

 

The Assistant Vice President will be responsible for developing the strategic direction and implementation of this new office.  The Assistant Vice President will work directly with the President, Vice President of Advancement, Provost, and other leaders to develop all relevant plans to identify, engaged, cultivate, solicit, and steward scholarship prospects. As the leader of this team, the Assistant Vice President is expected to be an active participant in events and programs related to scholarships, and in development meetings, activities and various other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Advancement, as well as lead the team of annual giving officers. The Assistant Vice President is a member of the Vice President’s leadership team.  Other responsibilities include:

 

  • Oversee all functions of the Scholarships and Annual Giving team.
  • Build out team which will eventually comprise 4 to 6 members.
  • Coordinate strategic engagement, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies for scholarship donors and prospects.
  • Work with university leadership to facilitate unique and big ideas related to scholarship fund raising.
  • Build relationship with fellow development officers, Deans, Directors, etc.
  • Oversee annual giving including direct mail, phone, social fund raising, as well as an eventual team of leadership gift officers.
  • Personally manage a major gift portfolio.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience, or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of appropriate experience required.

Familiarity with CRM databases required, Raiser’s Edge preferred.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across campus, including development colleagues, deans, senior administrators, volunteers, and support staff.

High-level knowledge of fundraising principles and related experience working with high level administration, volunteers and donors.

Experience raising seven-figure gifts and an understanding of all size gifts.

Experience building relationships with high-level volunteers, donors, and administrators.

Strong leadership and management skills including experience creating a team environment and motivating team members; establishing and administering clear performance goals, objectives and metrics for assessment; serving as a resource in developing prospect strategies and offering new approaches and techniques; and creating plans for professional development pathways for staff to enhance skills and support retention.

Willingness to travel, work nights and weekends.

Ability to exercise a high degree of independence in performing job duties.

Experience in higher education fundraising.
