Job Description Summary
The Mail Room Clerk I, picks up, receives, sorts, distributes incoming mail. Collects and processes outgoing mail. Also processes and tracks items picked up & delivered. Picks up and delivers letters, packages, and other items on time between organizational facilities (mail stop locations). Operates postage machine and other mail room equipment, as needed. And guide, train, work along with student staff.
In addition, Mail Room Clerk I, reports to the Manager. Being a Mail Room Clerk I possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Work under the close direction of the Manager in the functional area. May require 0-1 year of general work experience.
Responsibilities
Applicants for Staff and Administrator positions must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Chapman University does not sponsor applicants for Staff and Administrator positions for work visas.
The offer of employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion and outcomes of a criminal background screening, DMV driving clearance, and returning to the Office of Human Resources a signed original acceptance of the Chapman University Agreement to Arbitrate.

Responsibilities
- Picks up the university mail from the local Post Office, in the morning.
- Drop off USPS outgoing mail & packages @ the Post Office, at the end of the work day.
- Sort and collate incoming and outgoing mail.
- Sort & validates student mail & packages for delivery.
- Scan student packages using the tracking system.
- Deliver student mail & packages to the student mail centers.
- Guide and train student staff of processing procedures and delivery locations.
- Deliver packages to the mail stop locations (departments).
- Pick up any outgoing mail & package requests from the mail stop locations.
- Process university outgoing mail, placing correct postage.
- Able to place correct postage using the postage machine and scan proper bar code labels to for the tracking system.
- Process outgoing FedEx and/or UPS items, when necessary.
- Be trained as a copier personnel.
- Be trained to process bulk mail.
- To have a flexible work schedule.
- Able to work Saturdays, at times, and/or past working shift, as needed.
- And other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED .
- Valid driver’s license.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, move items up to 50lbs.
- Able to work independently, at times.
- Able to interact with customers.
- Able communicate and work with other fellow Mail Clerks.
- Should be patient and willing to complete tasks that might become tedious.
- Working well in high-paced environments.
- Computer skills.
- Written, verbal and interpersonal communication.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Must be computer proficient (Microsoft Office Suite).
