Job Summary

The Center for Humanities & the Arts (CHA) encourages applicants for the Communication & Event Coordinator position! This position provides communications & marketing expertise, plans and manages events, and provides operational support to the Center. This role ensures marketing, media and communication plans are developed and implemented effectively, that CHA events, projects, and initiatives are promoted to a variety of audiences, and contributes to raising CHA’s profile both on and off-campus while maintaining and improving upon CU Boulder’s stellar reputation.

Who We Are

Established in 1997, the Center for Humanities & the Arts (CHA) supports research and creative work in the arts and humanities for faculty and graduate students across the university, particularly within the College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Music, the University Libraries, and the College of Media, Communication, and Information. The mission of the CHA is to foster community, support collaborations, and inspire creativity and research in the arts and humanities, while promoting equity, inclusion, and academic excellence. To support our mission the CHA holds competitions for grants and fellowships for faculty, students, and staff that enables them to engage and/or complete their arts and humanities projects/research. The CHA also operates the Hazel Barnes Flat in London, which provides lodging for faculty, staff, and students pursuing or presenting research in the UK. The CHA reports to the Dean of the Graduate School, and is guided by an external advisory board.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Marketing & Communications
  • Supervise CHA’s marketing, media, and communication strategies to create awareness of the Center and attract participants to a range of events and programs.
  • Participate in CU’s communication teams (CU Social Media) and is act as an E-Comm Specialist for the Center.
  • Manage external communications including website, social media, and listservs.
  • Develop and implement print and electronic marketing materials, including newsletters, campus events eBlasts, flyers & posters, and promotion of events and programming.
  • Manage CRM/Salesforce/Marketing Cloud and coordinate marketing distribution to campus and the community.
  • Design and deploy the annual report and Faculty Celebration Magazine.
  • Assist the Faculty Director with promotion and branding strategies to showcase and grow awareness of CHA and ensure marketing and communications reflect the Center’s JEDI values.
  • Apply Google Analytics, Salesforce, Qualtrics and other tools to track key performance metrics and evaluates success of marketing efforts year-over-year
Event Planning & Management
  • Coordinate a wide range of events hosted by CHA throughout the academic year including seminars, workshops, a faculty recognition celebration, visiting scholar/artist talks, and advisory board and steering committee meetings.
  • Ensure virtual and in-person events are well-planned and successfully organized, including webinars, seminars, workshops, and celebrations.
  • Coordinate and supervise all aspects of CHA events, including scheduling, reserving spaces, catering, renting equipment & managing AV technical needs, preparing publications and advertising, etc.
  • Manage event budgets and ensures event related invoices and payments are processed in collaboration with CHA’s Program Manager and the Graduate School.
Administrative/Operational Support
  • Manage CHA’s front office area, providing excellent customer service and supporting the Faculty Director and Program Manager.
  • Manage the Center’s office and reception desk serving as point of contact for questions and concerns from faculty, staff, students, community partners and visitors.
  • Hire, train, and serve as direct supervisor to 1-2 student assistants who assist with general administration support, marketing, communications, and event management.
  • Assist Faculty Director with scheduling and managing the Center’s calendars.
  • Implement internal processes and procedures to ensure that communications, marketing, and event matters run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as requested.
What You Should Know
  • This is a hybrid position. Certain tasks may be completed remotely while others will require onsite hours either on the CU Boulder Campus or at offsite event venues.
  • The schedule for this position is business hours Monday thru Friday; occasionally special events may occur during evening or weekend hours.
  • All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to comply with the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement . New employees must provide proof of vaccination or receive a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.
What We Can Offer

$50,000-$60,000

What We Require
  • Bachelor's degree
  • A combination of education and relevant experience may substitute for the degree on a year for year basis. Relevant experience would include planning and implementing communications and marketing campaigns, managing events, and/or managing daily operations and general administration of an office, program, or other similar entity.
What You Will Need
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to a wide range of professionals.
  • Motivated to provide quality customer service.
  • Ability to creatively solve problems, meet goals, and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Proficiency in standard business software and computer systems (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, Google Docs, etc.).
  • Proficiency in website editing using Word Press or similar web platforms.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Degree in an arts or humanities-related field.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Graphic design experience.
  • Events management experience.
