Job Description:

Position Summary:
Under the direction and supervision of the Principle Investigator, the postdoctoral fellow will conduct experiments to study harmful algal bloom toxin (including microcystin toxin MC-LR) degradation by bacteria. Experiments will include microbiology experiments to grow bacteria in various media, ELISA procedures to measure MC-LR concentrations, preparing samples for mass spectrometry analysis, genomic and transcriptomic studies to predict and identify toxin degrading genes/proteins, molecular biology experiments to clone and express recombinant enzymes, biochemistry experiments to examine toxin degradation, and other assignments to keep the laboratory clean, organized, and functional.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to plan, perform, analyze, and interpret scientific experiments.
Ability to complete grant-funded specific aims independently, as well as with guidance from the PI.
Ability to trouble-shoot and work independently.
Ability to perform microbiology and molecular biology experiments to achieve grant aims.
Ability to use a personal computer and software, including Microsoft Office products and Prism.
Ability to operate common microbiology and molecular biology lab equipment (e.g. thermal cycler, incubator, biosafety cabinet, autoclave, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
Extensive experience in growth and manipulation of bacteria using various media and growth conditions.
Extensive experience in various molecular biology protocols, including cloning, recombinant protein expression and purification, protein chemistry, enzyme biology, etc.
Experience in genomics and transcriptomics, including bioinformatics experience.
