Job Description Summary
The School of Communication and Journalism at Auburn University
seeks candidates for an instructor position in Public Speaking in
Communication beginning Aug. 16, 2022. The position is a one-year,
non-tenure eligible position with the possibility of renewal for an
additional two years (total not to exceed three years) based upon
job performance and availability of funding.
Responsibilities: This is a teaching-intensive position in the
undergraduate Communication Public Speaking program. The primary
responsibility of the successful candidate is to teach COMM 1000
Public Speaking (the basic speech course) during the fall and
spring semesters. The position requires teaching four in-person,
on-campus Public Speaking courses per semester. The successful
candidate will also work with the basic course director to train
and mentor graduate students who teach COMM 1000.
The full-time, nine-month appointment runs from mid-August to
mid-May. Supplemental support for summer instruction may be
possible depending on need and availability of funding.
Responsibilities also include service to the School.
A master’s degree by time of appointment in communication or a
comparable degree and evidence of excellent teaching in public
speaking courses. The Instructor appointment requires an earned
master’s degree by the Aug. 16, 2022, start date. If the candidate

the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally
for the proposed term of employment; excellent communication skills
