A.T. Still University's School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA) invites applications for an exempt, 0.8 FTE Assistant/Associate Professor Pathology on the Mesa, Arizona campus. For academic assignments in the department, this person will report to the chairperson; for administrative and academic duties beyond the department, this person will report to the associate dean, curriculum (directly) and the dean (indirectly). Faculty will contribute to ATSU-SOMA in the areas of educating students in years 1-4, scholarly activity, diversity, equity and inclusion, and service to the University and community. Faculty will be assessed annually on the basis of educational effectiveness, professionalism, adaptability, commitment, dependability, and innovation/vision.

Job Duties:
  • Attend to regular communications as it relates to all position responsibilities.
  • Serve as content expert in area of expertise.
  • Provide objective input on a diversity of perspectives.
  • Skillfully use feedback for continued innovation and improvement.
  • Must be available for work during the hours assigned, for student instruction or learning processes.
  • Preparation of demonstrations, presentations, small group content, and the selection of suggested and required reading from various sources, and coordinating these educational tools/resources with other faculty members.
  • Prepare evaluation/assessment tools that will aid in the evaluation of students’ work product and help to identify students that are discovered to be challenged in various areas.
  • Attend meetings approved by school that require advancement of your profession (Pathology).
  • Must be able to take direction and receive assignments from the Department Chair, and Assistant and Associate Deans of Innovation and Curricular Integration.
  • Serve as a CBIQ group facilitator as needed and on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Serve as a facilitator for simulation-based educational experiences on an as needed basis.
  • Create NBOME board-style examination items for core content within your stated discipline.
  • Serve on at least 2 major ATSU-SOMA committees (ex: Admissions, Diversity Committee, Student Performance, and Curriculum).
  • Active participation in faculty development, as well as personal and professional development.
  • If desired and approved, may use half-day per week for activity related to patient care in an alternate clinical setting of candidate’s choice while providing shadowing opportunities for students.
  • Accept other duties assigned/needed to meet the goals and mission of ATSU-SOMA.
  • Interview ATSU-SOMA candidates for admission.
  • Perform student advising/academic coaching functions.
  • Participate in research and/or scholarly activity as deemed appropriate by the Department Chair.
  • Other functions supporting the department and its contribution to the mission and vision of ATSU-SOMA.
Skills/Experience:
  • DO/MD degree, AZ medical license.
  • One to two years experience.
  • Skill requirements are covered under specialty board certification.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, emailing, and public speaking.
