(Job #515457) Instructional Support Assistant II, Equipment Checkout Coordinator and Technician, $ 3,176.00 - $ 4,985.00. Appointments are typically made at the beginning of the salary range. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, benefited, non-exempt, 12-month pay plan permanent position with a one-year in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. This position will serve the Departments of Art + Film and Journalism and Mass Communication and their students. Position Summary: This position receives lead work direction provided by the Department Chairs and Program Leads. The incumbent is responsible for the oversight of the equipment checkout needs for the Department of Art + Film and Department of Journalism and Mass Communications and meeting the needs of the students within these programs. ​​The position must be able to administer, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, maintain, design or modify a wide range of specialized electronic and mechanical equipment used in still photography, video and motion picture production and post production. Assignments include directing the equipment checkout system for students and other duties related to instructional support. Knowledge in the use of video cameras, DSLR and analog photo cameras, lenses, audio recording equipment, electronic test equipment, diagnostic processes and complex troubleshooting skills is required. The employee must be able to effectively demonstrate equipment operations to students and be able to manage multiple department equipment needs. The employee must oversee the WebCheckout platform and the equipment interface with it.

Key Responsibilities:

General oversight, which includes:
  • Overseeing university student employees and creation of work schedules that accommodate department class needs.
  • Coordinating and overseeing student equipment scheduling and check out.
  • Maintaining equipment inventory, performing research, and generating purchase orders and repair records.
  • Administering and maintaining equipment checkout management and tracking software system and reservation and booking software system.
  • Working with Academic Support Coordinator and Art, Film and Journalism and Mass Communication faculty to develop and coordinate various operating budgets and accounts.

Skilled Repair, Maintenance, Design or Modification of Specialized Equipment, which includes:
  • Image gathering and audio production tools use for film and digital media production, including film and digital camera systems, sound apparatus, film or digital media exhibition equipment and facilities.
  • Coordinating with IT for computer administration, applications, software and hardware installation and troubleshooting.
  • Conducting maintenance and modifications specific to video, audio and motion picture post-production facilities.
  • Conducting lighting repair, maintenance, modifications and fabrications including connectors, wiring, power adapters and lamps.
  • Overseeing post-production workflow and file compatibility from camera through completion.

Instructional support, which includes:
  • Providing technical equipment and computer support, consultation and instruction of equipment use.
  • Providing classroom demonstrations, student equipment instruction and troubleshooting software issues.
  • Assisting and interfacing with film labs to process film stocks into the optimal video codecs and file formats.
  • Conducting digital and film projection and projection screen installation and maintenance.
  • Assisting with the user interface for Patron Portal and WebCheckout.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Associated with this Position Include:

Knowledge of:
  • Methods, materials, tools and equipment skills for repairing, maintaining, operating and demonstrating video, radio, photo and motion picture camera, audio, light, grip and projection equipment.
  • Current video, radio, photojournalism, motion picture production and post-production techniques, standards, practices, and workflows.

Specialized Skills:
  • Oversight of multiple department equipment needs and the logistics related to meeting a variety of needs simultaneously.
  • Perform minor repair and maintenance of equipment.

Ability to:
  • Develop equipment checkout and work schedules to meet deadlines.
  • Prepare a variety of equipment and materials necessary for specific courses and use judgment related to the suitability of these items.
  • Perform complex troubleshooting and problem solving for digital motion picture, radio, video, and 16mm production and post-production.
  • Maintain stock records of equipment and supplies and track inventory by maintaining a checkout catalog of equipment issued and returned.
  • Prepares requisitions for purchase of equipment and supplies (this may include checking local sources for availability and price).
  • Work with faculty to set up class or training rooms for student equipment use.
  • Maintain equipment checkout space in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Promote and foster a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Minimum Qualifications: Equivalent to one year of experience performing support services for an instructional program and involving such activities as preparing, producing, dispensing or storing specialized electronic and mechanical equipment used in still photography, video and motion picture production and post production.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience instructing students on equipment use and troubleshooting software. A self-starting and lifelong learner with demonstrated experience in video, radio, film and digital media industry technological advances and developments. Experience implementing and managing the WebCheckout and Patron Portal software systems.
