Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM; this is a temporary position to end on or before June 30, 2023 with a possibility of renewal on an annual basis if funds and/or program needs exist.

About the Position:
The University Police department is dedicated to ensuring the University Community's right to a crime free environment through exemplary and professional service. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Community Service Specialist. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under general supervision, the Community Service Specialist performs security, public safety support, and related campus community service functions. Patrols the campus on foot, bike or vehicle to protect the campus community and visitors from fire, theft, vandalism, trespassing, and other crimes. Assists in the enforcement of campus rules and regulations and reports hazardous conditions. Checks, opens, and secures campus facilities. Coordinates and tests campus alarm systems. Assists the campus community in the event of an emergency to include assistance with evacuations and rendering immediate assistance to those in need. Notifies the CSUF University Police Department of incidents requiring police presence. Writes incident reports to document activities that do not require investigation by police. Maintains keys to the facility and assists in the parking lots with traffic control and ensuring that lighting is appropriate. Monitors security cameras and assists the bookstore and food services with loss prevention. Provides escorts for students, faculty, and staff members as needed. Performs other administrative and security functions for the campus as deemed necessary. As a member of the University Police Department, supports efforts in promoting an inclusive environment of teamwork and will contribute towards ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion are incorporated in department operations, programs, and services. Will represent the CSUF PD in campus events and in providing excellent customer service to supporting the needs of the campus community. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
High school diploma or the equivalent and a minimum of three months of related experience. The nature of the duties may also require successful completion of a background check to include LiveScan fingerprinting, physical and psychological exam, and/or the ability to attend Police Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) programs related to public safety support and dispatch activities. Knowledge of and the ability to learn how to use the applicable public safety related equipment and systems. Working knowledge of applicable procedures and regulations related to campus security, public safety, and parking. Working knowledge of alarm and radio systems. Ability to detect and respond appropriately to potential hazardous or crime situations. Ability to observe and recall details and incidents. Ability to act and resolve parking and traffic problems. Ability to write standard incident reports in a clear and concise manner. Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of individuals including the campus community, general public, and law enforcement personnel. Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and confidentiality.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
