IT Administrator

Johns Hopkins University (JHU) seeks an Information Technology (IT) Administrator for the Centers for Government Excellence and Public Innovation (the Centers). The Centers have engaged with hundreds of governments over the course of their work to deepen expertise, invest in leaders, and drive impact across the globe. They have also successfully led the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center and will be responsible for archiving and managing this important data set. Collectively, the Centers seek to build an innovative, data-informed, and equitable public sector. The Centers use technology internally as the backbone of communication, connection, and service delivery.

The IT Administrator will support Centers staff from onboarding through their tenure at the Centers by administering key software, providing front-line technical support, interfacing with Johns Hopkins University Central IT. The chosen candidate will assist in setting and implementing a strategic plan for the Centers’ tech stack. The IT Administrator will be a key member of the Tech and Tools team and report to the Technology Officer.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

    Interface between JHU IT and the Centers staff Setup JHU provided laptops for Centers staff Administer the software that the Centers provide to staff Provide technical onboarding to new Centers staff Maintain list of available softwares and track usage Assist the Technology Officer in developing strategic plans for the Centers tech stack Act as a first line of technical support and route appropriately when necessary Develop technical documentation and best practice guides for available software Assists in maintaining organization of Google Drive and other core project management tools utilized by the Centers

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

    High School Diploma/GED and two years college course work
  • Five years related experience
  • Additional education can be substituted for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula*

* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

    Five years of progressively responsible IT experience Experience working within a large, bureaucratic organization Experience working within a small, rapidly growing organization Experience working with diverse teams

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    Knowledge of Johns Hopkins University IT systems and processes Interest in cities or local government Familiarity with both Windows and Mac operating systems High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook as well a Google Workspace applications Familiarity with project management software such as Asana Familiarity with video conferencing software such as Zoom (including Zoom Rooms) Familiarity with Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) such as ArcGIS or QGIS Familiarity with Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure Familiarity with CRMs such as HubSpot Familiarity with workplace communications platforms such as Slack
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and calendars simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to set priorities and respond quickly as priorities change
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build good relationships with peers and to interact with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to work both cooperatively within a team and independently

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
