Job Description

Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, has an immediate need for a full-time Student Conduct Program Coordinator in the Student Success Unit. The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm. This is a non-bargaining, exempt, grade 31 position. Montgomery College promotes and creates a working and learning environment rooted in the basic tenets of fairness, diversity, and inclusiveness.

The Student Conduct Program Coordinator is responsible for the comprehensive administration and enforcement of the student code of conduct. Under supervision and/or direction, the incumbent manages the process of student conduct by facilitating administrative and hearing functions. The incumbent proactively educates students and the campus community regarding student rights and responsibilities by presenting workshops and class presentations.

The Student Conduct Program Coordinator provides direct service to students by assisting the Dean in administering and enforcing the Student Code of Conduct (SCOC) on the Rockville Campus. The Student Conduct Program Coordinator acts as a liaison between the Dean’s Office, faculty, and students involved in SCOC violations. The coordinator is also responsible for educating the campus community on student conduct to help prevent violations and to enhance awareness of the rights and responsibilities outlined in the SCOC.

Additionally, the incumbent assists in creating increased communication and coordination within the Student Success Unit and instructional departments in an effort to help strengthen programs that directly support students. The Student Conduct Program Coordinator also works collaboratively with the Campus Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) as well as the Title IX Coordinator to address sensitive student matters.

The Student Conduct Program Coordinator also assists the Dean in planning strategies for meetings, conferences, workshops, and professional development activities for the benefit of the unit, campus, and broader community.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Meets with students to explain the conduct process
  • Initiates and conducts investigations through interviews of involved parties
  • Manages conduct database system to track and document the progress and resolution of cases/ and/or reports. Maintains hearing panel records.
  • Works collaboratively with the Dean of Student Affairs to determine appropriate outcomes
  • Monitors the implementation of imposed sanctions
  • Serves as the principal liaison to faculty and staff on student conduct issues
  • Meets with faculty members to discuss incidents and concerns; provides new faculty members with an introduction to the student code of conduct by attending area meetings along with the Dean of Student Affairs and Associate Dean as needed
  • Maintains hearing panel records, initiates and conducts investigations through interviews of all involved parties.
  • Creates educational programs, workshops, and outreach for new students regarding rights and responsibilities.
  • Conducts recruitment and training for new hearing panel members.
  • Provides reports upon request regarding student conduct incidents and conducts analysis of trends and other outreach services.
  • Delivers presentations to new student orientation participants, first year experience groups, and classes.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact for student code of conduct referrals on campus and collaborates with Deans and Associate Deans of Student Affairs across campuses.
  • Identifies emerging developments and trends pertaining to student conduct by remaining active and connected to regional, state, and national professional organizations pertinent to the field.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in student personnel administration, sociology, or related field.
  • Three years of experience with emphasis in a higher education setting.
  • Student conduct administration experience.
  • Knowledge of threat assessment best practices and experience working with students who exhibit concerning behavior(s).
  • Knowledge of legal issues in a higher education environment, including FERPA, ADA, and Title IX.
  • Strong leadership, conflict management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs and Judicial Affairs theory and best practices pertaining to the Student Code of Conduct, principles of assessment, data analysis, and program evaluation.
  • Working knowledge of the elements of student support services within a community college setting.
  • Skill in the use of a personal computer and appropriate software and web applications.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize, apply theories and best practices, conduct research and outcomes assessments, and be task and detail oriented.
  • Ability to manage conflict.
  • Ability to engage in strategic planning and program/policy development. Knowledge of student development/learning theory.
  • Ability to conduct process to direct students toward academic and personal success.
  • Ability to recruit, train, and supervise administrative support employees, student employees, and conduct board members.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure, time-sensitive crisis situations.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two to three years (post-graduate) experience in higher education, specifically in a Student Affairs setting.
  • Experience working in the community college setting.
Hiring Range $71,928 to $93,496 annually.
