DIRECTOR OF FINANCIAL AID

Scope of Job:
Provides oversight of financial aid functions for all UTRGV students with the goal of ensuring that students have financial access to the university in support of admissions decisions, academic achievement, retention, and timely degree completion. Ensure that student success, which is at the core of UTRGV's mission, is implemented in every aspect of the student financial aid experience.

Description of Duties:
• Oversees financial aid functions for all UTRGV students in compliance with Federal, State, and local legislated requirements and university policy.
• Works in collaboration with student success leadership to create a student success approach that will serve as a model across the country for integrating university services to provide a seamless, individualized, and effective support structure for students from recruitment through graduation
• Establishes a student-centered culture among financial aid staff, including student-focused processes and procedures and a commitment to outstanding service.
• Collaborates with other student success programs and initiatives, such as recruitment, advising, and registration, to ensure that students experience financial aid operations in a seamless fashion, as being integrated into their university experience.
• Develops strategic plans and programs that best use the university’s funds as well as funds from state and federal programs to maximize student success.
• Applies technology in a sophisticated manner to the functions of financial aid in order to streamline processes and increase efficiencies.
• Represents the University on matters pertaining to financial aid.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received:
General supervision from the Vice President for Strategic Enrollment and Student Affairs.

Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Higher Education Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, or in closely related area.

Preferred Education:
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, or in closely related area.

Licenses/Certifications:
None.

Required Experience:
Seven (7) years in a progressively responsible leadership position in financial aid or similar setting, including supervisory experience. Knowledge and experience with applicable federal, state, and local regulations affecting financial aid and their implementation at the university level.

Preferred Experience:
Experience designing financial aid programs intended to improve student academic success.

Equipment:
Use of standard office equipment.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment across the Rio Grande Valley.

Other:
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external constituencies. Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills. Ability to examine and re-engineer operation and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments while fostering a cooperative work environment.
