Scope of Job:
Provides clinical and administrative nursing support for project such as vaccinations. The research nurse is directly responsible for providing patient care, administer and managed specific clinical services to study patients.

Description of Duties:
• Provides nursing clinical and administrative support for clinical research studies, procedures, trials and projects such as TMS, immunization clinical trials and other research projects
• Recruits and screens potential study participants and conducts patient and family education accordingly. Explains and administers treatments to patients.
• Performs patient evaluations, administers medications and research instruments for which proper education has been received and provides nursing support to perform specialized diagnostic, therapeutic and other procedures.
• Performs data gathering, assists in developing data collection systems, study materials, brochures and correspondence under the guidance of a physician.
• Prepares, controls and operates research equipment for the performance of the procedures.
• Notifies physician and /or clinic nurses promptly of any unusual developments with the patient and responds appropriately to emergencies by seeking and providing assistance as necessary.
• Monitors data and data storage with the investigating physician.
• Makes referrals as ordered.
• Assists in writing research protocols, grants, reports, IRB proposals, patient education materials and other materials as directed by the supervisor.
• Maintains and protects patient’s confidentiality and privacy at all times.
• Counsel patients on importance and safety of the vaccinations.
• Maintains accurate records of all patients approached and number of vaccines received.
• Accurately document/communicate interventions and measurements in patient clinic record.
• Travel to assigned clinical sites.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received:
General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited Licensed Vocational Nurse program from an approved school of Nursing.

Preferred Education:

Licenses/Certifications:
Current Texas Licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse and CPR certification.

Required Experience:
Five (5) years of experience with extensive experience in a specialty that relates to the area of the research or other clinical research experience.

Equipment:
Use of standard office equipment.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Usual office or
clinical ambulatory patient care facility conditions. Some evening and /or weekend work and holidays may be required. Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.

Other:
The ability to read, speak and write Spanish is desirable. Ability to communicate effectively, written and verbal. Tact, diplomacy, discretion, and confidentiality of medical information required in all matters. Possible exposure to combustible materials. Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
