Nominations and applications are invited for the position of Chief Information Officer at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. The university seeks accomplished and strategic-minded candidates with the education and experience to collaborate with units across campus to seek new ways to engage and serve current students, faculty and staff and to help recruit prospective students.

The successful candidate will be a highly experienced, collaborative, student-centered IT professional who has a record as a strong leader with track record of setting and achieving unit and institutional goals.  

Founded in 1869, SIU Carbondale is the flagship campus of the Southern Illinois University System. With more than 11,000 students and more than 3,000 faculty and staff, the Carbondale campus offers a full range of doctoral, master’s, bachelor’s and associate degrees in addition to professional degrees in law and medicine. It is a diverse, student-centered, research-intensive university that has earned national recognition for its teaching, research, service, civic engagement, and commitment to diversity and inclusion.

The physical beauty of the region is a major attraction to students, faculty and visitors. Sixty miles to the south of Carbondale is the historic confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, the two forming the border of the southern tip of Illinois. Just six hours south of Chicago and within easy driving distance of St. Louis, Memphis, Nashville and Indianapolis, SIU Carbondale draws students from the Midwest but also from nearly every U.S. state and nearly 100 nations.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Serves as chief fiscal and administrative officer of the Office of Information Technology and participates as a member of the Chancellor's executive cabinet.
  • Provides leadership in the areas of information technology and information security, including strategic planning, management of the Office of Information Technology, project management, purchasing and vendor relations, budgeting, personnel coordination, user support, oversight of campus computing laboratories, and campus technology training.
  • Works collaboratively with administrators, deans, directors, faculty, academic and administrative staff, and students in identifying and implementing effective uses of technology and in enhancing information security.
  • Engages actively with University leaders to ensure that the Office of Information Technology's (OIT) priorities align with the University's mission and strategic plan.
  • Manages the Office of Information Technology to provide excellent user-centric information technology services across campus with high customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborates with campus leadership to ensure effective planning and implementation for disaster recovery and operations continuity.
  • Develops and supports a strong culture of continuous improvement across the Office of Information Technology.
  • Works actively with constituents across the university to facilitate communication and to meet technology and security needs and to develop information technology governance policies and procedures.

 

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least ten years of progressive professional experience in the management of information technology in a higher education organization.
  • Ability to develop and implement a strategic vision for future information technologies.
  • Collaborative leadership skills and a record of consensus building.
  • Ability to interact effectively with faculty, students, staff, vendors, and other stakeholders.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree and at least seven years of progressive professional experience in the management of information technology in a higher education organization.
