Director of Division Operations       Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director of Operations, under the oversight of the Executive Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and Division Chief(s) functions as the administrative and business executive for the Department of Surgery. The Director of Division Operations provides leadership and direction for a wide range of functions for a remarkable, research intensive, academic Division(s) within the Department of Surgery.  The incumbent focuses on positioning and supporting the Division(s)/Department to continue to grow and prosper including overseeing three division managers.  The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the success and efficient operation of these complex academic division(s) the strength of its business functions. The incumbent should be skilled at managing a complex academic enterprise and appreciate the importance of collegial decision making and matrixed leadership. 

In addition to strategic planning, the incumbent is responsible for managing the operations and overall financial viability of the Division(s) working within a prescribed budget.  The incumbent develops, implements and maintains an administrative infrastructure that effectively supports the Division(s’) operations and academic missions. The incumbent expertly leads a team to achieve the strategic priorities and objectives of the DGSOM and Department and by extension the Division(s).  The incumbent is an ambassador and “public face” of the Division(s). Specific areas of responsibility include operationalizing at the Division(s) level strategic planning, decision support, research planning administration, educational programs, academic affairs, facilities, compliance and controls and health and safety within the Division(s) and under the umbrella of the Department of Surgery.

Qualifications

 

  • -Bachelor's degree in related field such as business, finance, economics, etc., Masters preferred
  • Seven years of progressively responsible managerial experience including financial and budget preparation.
  • Five years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership, planning and change management skills in a highly matrixed environment,
    preferably a research intensive medical school/health system.
  • Demonstrated ability to demonstrate a high level of diplomacy in persuading and influencing a wide variety of
    people at various levels to achieve results.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze all pertinent information/data to make and communicate executive
    level recommendations and decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish a culture of integrity and accountability.
  • Advanced expertise in financial planning and analysis and decision support as it pertains to academic health
    care, research and higher education. PREFERRED
  • Demonstrated skills as a receptive listener, influential and persuasive and seeks to understand the differing
    sides of each situation. Makes decisions effectively and decisively.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards, trends and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to travel, as necessary.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and possible weekends.
