This is a 12-month non-tenure-accruing, full time position that will be 85% research and 15% teaching available in the Food Science and Human Nutrition Department, in the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit. Duties will include conducting research in molecular nutrition, specific to the area of zinc metabolism and function. The incumbent is expected to perform independent research and supervise students and postdoctoral trainees. This person will maintain an active research program based on ability to attract competitive extramural funds in areas that complements current research in the Department. Collaboration is available and expected across other departments and institutions with related molecular nutrition expertise as well as commercial collaborations addressing both domestic and international concerns. The research efforts may venture into other fundable interests consistent with the Land Grant and Sea Grant missions of the University.

This position will also teach the undergraduate course HUN 4813C Laboratory Techniques in Molecular Nutrition. This course focuses on laboratory techniques relevant to the study of nutrition, ranging from biochemistry, molecular biology, genomics, and bioinformatics. Teaching duties will include advising undergraduate students and supporting student professional development activities. There may be additional or different courses assigned that complements the Department’s educational programs.

Minimum Requirements:

Required :

A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in nutritional sciences or related field; a minimum of four years of related postdoctoral research experience is essential. Experience in molecular biology and metabolic experimentation with animals or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and procurement of extramural funding. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system. Candidates must also have a commitment to IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability.
