Job Summary:

The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) Departmental Support (DS) team serves the administrative, academic, and research technology support needs of students, departments, and faculty/staff on the UW Madison campus. UW-Madison consists of 13 schools and colleges, over 24,000 faculty/staff, a student enrollment of over 45,000, and over $1.3B in annual research expenditures. The atmosphere on campus is vibrant contributing to an exciting working environment where collaboration and learning are encouraged. This position will be a member of the Secure Endpoint and Application Management (SEAM) team. SEAM team members are responsible for supporting the enterprise endpoint management tools that manage over 20,000 UW-Madison systems, and are responsible for managing 5,000 departmentally owned systems directly.

Successful team members have a broad knowledge of general IT concepts and have expertise in multiple technologies across network, hardware, and software platforms. Team members should have knowledge of one or more programming languages and experience using vendor APIs for workflow automation and to create integrations between different enterprise systems. They should also have advanced knowledge of endpoint management tools and best practice security concepts, especially surrounding Active Directory administration, patch management, vulnerability assessment, computer imaging technologies, and data security.

SEAM team members work in a supportive and highly collaborative environment which values providing scalable technology solutions while maintaining a firm focus on customer service. Team members are afforded the opportunity to attain expertise on a variety of enterprise endpoint management technologies used across the UW-Madison campus. Team members must also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication with customers and staff from diverse cultures, diverse technologies and with wide-ranging professional and nonprofessional backgrounds at different skill levels.

Responsibilities:

Designs, implements, and maintains infrastructure and/or moderately complex technical integrations across multiple systems, including in-house systems, acquired commercial, and external such as Cloud hosted. Provides day-to-day maintenance and long term assistance to ensure subsystems and infrastructure function together and business needs are met.
  • 15% Integrates, identifies, troubleshoots, monitors, and resolves moderately complex, routine, and varied supported services, systems, network, and application problems according to established processes and procedures
  • 10% Serves as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, identifies needs, provides solution options, and communicates issue updates and resolutions
  • 5% Participates in the evaluation of new vendor software releases and impact. Documents and communicates system enhancements or changes
  • 5% Assists with the planning and coordination of system resources, upgrades, security, implementations, and integrations
  • 20% Configures, maintains, upgrades, develops, and tests IT systems and services in alignment with industry best practices
  • 25% Runs, maintains, and operates technical systems and infrastructure
  • 20% Performs integration, migration, configuration, and security of existing applications and services into automated infrastructures

Qualifications:

Required
-Experience researching, planning, testing and implementing application upgrades and installations.
-Excellent customer service skills.
-Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
-Professional experience using one or more scripting (PowerShell, VBS, Bash; etc) or programming (C++, Java, Perl; etc) languages.
-Professional experience using vendor APIs (REST, SOAP; etc) to create integrations between different enterprise systems.

Preferred
-Experience with Agile or Kanban Scrum methodologies and tools.
-Experience with Git version control system.
-Professional experience in the support of endpoint management technologies such as Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft SCCM, HCL BigFix, VMWare Workspace ONE; etc.
