Summary of Job Duties:The Coordinator for Fraternity and Sorority Life is a 12-month position in the Student Life Office (SLO) at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. The coordinator provides the general administration of the Fraternity and Sorority Life system. This position is the primary advisor to the University’s Fraternity and Sorority Life system, including the Panhellenic Council and the Interfraternal Council. The coordinator must be a skilled professional capable of working independently as well as part of a professional, student-centered team. This position will oversee and coordinate all Fraternity and Sorority Life risk management efforts, including but not limited to prevention strategies and programs on awareness and risk reduction issues. The ideal candidate will be able to assist the University as we continue to expand and further develop our Fraternity and Sorority Life System. The coordinator reports directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor & Dean of Students.

Qualifications:

Education & Work Experience:
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. A master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or a related field is preferred. Familiarity and experience with Fraternity and Sorority Life is required. One year of related work experience, particularly working with college students is required, however relevant undergraduate executive level (e.g., organizational presidents and/or council presidents) leadership experience in Fraternity or Sorority Life or post undergraduate advising experience may be substituted for this requirement. Other preferred qualifications include having three or more years of experience as a professional Greek Life Staff member in a university setting, including direct knowledge of working through expansion of Greek letter organizations, and working with multi-cultural organizations.

• Knowledge of social media platforms and other tools

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide oversight, supervision, mentoring, advisement, and support to Fraternity and Sorority chapters, governing/coordinating Greek Councils, their officers, and initiatives

• Oversight for the coordination and implementation of fraternity and sorority formal and informal recruitment processes

• Develop, implement, and assess education and leadership development programs (i.e., Officer Training, Officer Transitions, PNM Orientation, New Member Education, Risk Management, etc.)

• Support and apply University and departmental policies and procedures pertaining to registered student organizations and inform and clarify those policies and procedures with student leaders ensuring they follow recruitment, events, and fundraising processes

• Promote the value of Fraternity and Sorority Life to prospective and current students through materials, special events, website, and social media

• Prepare, submit, and distribute reports and assessments detailing the Fraternity and Sorority community grade point, recruitment, membership statistics, and community standards

• Serve on University and Division Committees representing the Fraternity and Sorority Life perspective

• Serve as a liaison and provide regular and ongoing communication to national headquarters, volunteer chapter advisors, including communications with chapter consultants

• Coordinate and ensure ongoing trainings for individual chapters and governing/coordinating councils, including but not limited to hazing, Title IX, alcohol, and other drugs, etc.

• Manage the event approval process for Fraternity and Sorority chapter and council events via NumaLink

• Select, train, and supervise the Fraternity and Sorority Life Student Assistant

• With the other members of the Student Life team and student leaders, design and

implement leadership programs including the Leadership LLC and the Freshman Leadership Retreat

• Oversee the Fraternity and Sorority Life Budget and Council checking accounts

Other Duties and Responsibilities (5%)

• Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that fosters teamwork and provides leadership to subordinates

• A flexible work schedule is required and will include some evening and weekend work

• Requires consistent punctual attendance

Since the coordinator acts in a supervisory role over the Student assistant.
The Greek Life Coordinator will not directly supervise any professional staff. (In the above section under Essential Duties, this supervisory function is listed: “Select, train, and supervise the Fraternity and Sorority Life Student Assistant”)

Working Relationships:
Works with staff, faculty and students from across campus, chapter advisors, staff advisors, and members of the local community.

Special Job Dimensions:

Work performed primarily in an office setting; will be required to work some evenings and weekends. May also be asked to perform tasks which may require occasional lifting of no more than 20 pounds.

Salary Information:

$36,000-40,000/Year
