About the Design Library:
The Design Library, located within Lawrence Hall on the Eugene campus, houses over 90,000 books and journals on three floors and includes among its unique holdings rare books, artists' books, historic architectural models, and architecture student drawings dating from the early 20th century. The Portland campus library includes 14,000 books and journals with more than half of the collection devoted to supporting architecture and historic preservation among other programs.
Position Summary
UO Libraries seeks an energetic and creative Design Librarian to deliver instruction and research services to College of Design faculty and students. This position will also develop general and rare book collections and engage with faculty on issues such as open educational resources and digital scholarship. The successful candidate will have a passion for teaching and outreach and desire to work with a highly collaborative team of library staff located on both the Eugene and Portland campuses.

Reporting to the Director of Branch Libraries, the Design Librarian serves as liaison to the College of Design (School of Architecture & Environment, School of Art & Design, School of Planning, Public Policy, & Management, and Department of the History of Art and Architecture), delivering instructional services which support the college's curriculum and research needs including Portland campus programs, research centers, and online programs. This position provides course-integrated library instruction and, with faculty collaboration, designs tools, and learning experiences to enhance curricular assignments and activities in information and visual literacy. This position provides research consultation services to faculty, researchers, staff, and students, and manages the Design Library's special/rare collections. In addition, this position will have a dotted reporting line to the Director of Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA) regarding the preservation and care of the rare book collection in the Design Library. The Design Librarian also informs and updates college faculty and students about UO Libraries initiatives such as open educational resources, digital scholarship opportunities, and data services programs.

The Design Librarian works closely with the Director of Branch Libraries and colleagues in the Design and Portland Libraries. Working in the UO Libraries' highly team-based environment, this Librarian collaborates with colleagues across the libraries in collection development and management, instruction services, and programming. They may also participate in the development of online teaching and learning tools and special collections projects in collaboration with various UO Libraries departments such as Digital Scholarship Services, Data Services, Collection Services, and Special Collections and University Archives.

The person in this position is expected to engage in service to the University, UO Libraries, and community through work on committees and similar groups; participate in appropriate professional development activities and organizations to stay current with trends and practices in the field; meet UO Libraries faculty criteria for promotion and retention; and contribute to the University's goals regarding equity and inclusion. In addition, the librarian may participate in library and campus activities related to shared governance.

This position is primarily based at the Eugene campus in the Design Library, but will require some travel to the UO Portland campus library.

Minimum Requirements
Minimum Qualifications for the Rank of Assistant Librarian:

• Master's Degree in Library/Information Science from an American Library Association-accredited institution.
  
• Two years' post-MLIS experience in an academic library.
  
• Experience providing library instruction in person or online.
  
• Experience working with art/architecture collections in an academic library.
  
  Minimum Qualifications for the Rank of Associate Librarian:
  
• Master's Degree in Library/Information Science from an American Library Association-accredited institution.
  
• Six years' post-MLIS experience in an academic library.
  
• Experience providing library instruction in person or online.
  
• Experience working with art/architecture collections in an academic library.
  Professional Competencies
  
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  
• Ability to support and enhance a diverse learning and working environment.
  Preferred Qualifications
  
• One or more years of post-MLIS experience working with art and architecture collections.
  
• Experience managing and teaching with special and rare books collections.
  
• Experience in collection development and materials acquisition in support of an arts and/or architecture curriculum.
  
• Experience teaching information literacy within arts or design curricula.
  
• Experience with using technologies to teach and collaborate online.
  
• Familiarity with ACRL Visual Literacy Standards and the ARLIS/NA Core Competencies for Art Information Professionals.
  
• Graduate degree in art history, architecture, fine arts, or design discipline.
