Position Overview:

Develop and deliver programs and services related to career development, career, choice, academic plans, job development, and workplace transition. Provide individual and/or group career counseling and workshops on these topics. Plan, create, and/or present informational programs. Document, report, and/or maintain records and evaluation information from counseling/program sessions. Represent the college during university special events and other outreach activities for current and prospective students. May coordinate internships for students with interested companies and corporations and maintain career recourse information. Assist in the design and implementation of procedures. May serve as a liaison between students and employers, and persuade employers to recruit students and alumni. The general schedule for this position is 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:
  • Conduct one-on-one career coaching sessions to create a career development plan including components of career assessment, definition of career and internship goals, choosing a major, job-search, resume preparation, interviewing, and applying to graduate/professional school. 50%
  • Coordinate at least one special project focused on student outreach and training to special student populations. -15%
  • Facilitate training and skill development workshops and presentations to classes and student organizations and assist in coordinating special events, programs, fairs, etc. 15%
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and information about career fields and industries. 7%
  • Communicate with relevant faculty and staff and any appropriate student groups and/or organizations to increase visibility and knowledge of office programs. 5%
  • Participate in assessment of services and programs. 5%
  • Promote the university and office through participation in professional organizations. 3%
  • Participate as a team member in activities related to the goals and objectives of the unit.
Qualifications

Qualifications/Experience Required:
  • Requires a university degree in a related field or 4+ years of equivalent work experience in chosen field that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts.
  • Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred :
  • Master's degree in counseling, higher education administration, or related field.
  • At least one year of experience in career services, advising, or counseling; understanding of career development theory.
  • Demonstrated ability to use assessment instruments, MBTI Certification.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Experience working with diverse groups of students and alumni. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to make effective group presentations. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and implement programs. Ability to work with faculty, staff, and company representatives.
