Job Description

The Missouri College Advising Corps (MCAC) is a college access and AmeriCorps program dedicated toEmpowering Missouri Students to Go to College and Succeed. MCAC seeks recent college graduates to serve as full-time, near-peer college advisers in partner high schools across the state with high percentages of students of color, students from low-income backgrounds, and first-generation college students. After completing pre-service training, MCAC college advisers are immersed in a partner high school to provide information and support to students and their families on college admissions, financial aid, and planning processes as well as alternative postsecondary pathways.

Specific duties include collaborating with school administration and counselors to foster a college-going culture; advising students on all aspects of postsecondary planning in a one-on-one and small group setting; coordinating college exposure activities (e.g., campus tours, college rep visits, etc.); delivering presentations and workshops for students and family members; assisting students with registering and preparing for college entrance exams; and assisting students and families with financial aid and scholarship processes.

Salary

$27,984 - $30,000 (AmeriCorps Living Allowance)

Minimum Qualifications

-A Bachelor’s degree in any academic discipline earned between 2019 and 2022; and

-Satisfy the minimum requirements to participate in AmeriCorps including status as a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States and a three-part National Service Criminal History Check procedure pursuant to 45 C.F.R. § 2540.202.

Preferred Qualifications

-Demonstrated record of volunteerism and service and/or experience working with youth from diverse and/or economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

-Basic computer skills in data tracking, data entry, and/or Microsoft Excel.

-Strong customer service and/or people skills.
