Biomechanics/Simulation Lab Manager

Job Summary:

The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program and the Physician Assistant Program at Marist College is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as the laboratory manager for our Patient Simulation Lab and our Movement Analysis Lab. This individual will work in collaboration with faculty of both programs in the didactic and research aspects of the program. The individual will be responsible for the day to day operations of the laboratories, equipment calibration and maintenance, collection and analysis of data, and assist in the delivery of educational laboratory experiences. The manager coordinates and supports faculty efforts across both academic programs in accordance with accreditation educational requirements and for the purpose of ongoing faculty research. This full-time 12-month position. The state-of-the-art Simulation and Movement Analysis laboratories provide an exciting opportunity for collaborative research in this position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree or higher in biomechanics, engineering (biomedical or mechanical) or computer science and possess experience collecting and processing optical motion capture data.

Essential Functions:
  • Manage day-to-day operations in the Movement Analysis and Simulation Laboratories
  • Manage data collection
  • Maintain laboratory & simulation equipment
  • Schedule data collection sessions (in conjunction with faculty)
  • Calibrate technologies and collect data
  • Troubleshoot technological issues
  • Catalog data
  • Conduct and manage all stages of data processing
  • Maintain a meticulous and up-to-date catalog of data processing statuses
  • Supervise lab assistants
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of biomechanical reports
  • Remain abreast of technological advancements in biomechanical measurement
  • Conduct reviews to summarize scientific literature
  • Assist with other Movement Science initiatives on an ad hoc basis
  • Inventory PA Program supplies
  • Operate simulation software during practical examinations
  • Assist in task trainer set up and take down
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Acute familiarity operating motion capture hardware and software (BTS models)
  • Adeptness calibrating, configuring and operating standard biomechanics lab hardware
  • Demonstrated expertise in motion capture data processing
  • Proficiency in computer software e.g. Python is highly desirable
  • Ability to review and critically evaluate scientific literature
  • Experience with medical equipment & terminology
