Emporia State University is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Basic Needs Coordinator. The coordinator will serve as a primary point of contact for students needing assistance in meeting their basic needs, including food, housing, financial and off-campus resources. The coordinator will help to support students’ well-being by providing immediate food assistance as well as connecting students with additional resources and support on campus and within the community. This position helps ensure responsive, culturally competent, and confidential support services for students needing basic needs support. The coordinator, in collaboration with other initiatives within the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, along with other campus partners, serves as a resource for students to obtain resources and to promote student success, retention, and completion by removing barriers to their education.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Managing the Food Pantry
  • Manage all aspects of food inventory, procurement, and distribution
  • Maintain adequate food supply to provide quality food
  • Order and receive food and validate invoices/receipts from Kansas Food Bank and local vendors
  • Pickup, receive, and record food donations
  • Serve as a liaison with the Memorial Union and Sodexo on related programs as needed

Campus Outreach and Resource Education

  • Coordinate and collaborate with multiple campus offices, committees, and initiatives including Athletics, Basic Needs Coalition, Student Accessibility and Support Services, Financial Aid, Residential Life, Student Advising Center, and Student Wellness and Counseling Center, as well as community partners as needed
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of basic needs programs, services, and resources including guidelines and eligibility requirements to understand requirements for students to access services
  • Work with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and student workers to develop and coordinate education programs around basic needs
  • Attend conferences and other professional development opportunities to increase understanding of experiences and resources around basic needs
  • Case Management and Crises Response
  • Provide support for students in applying for public assistance
  • Connect students to campus and community resources in times of urgent or crises situations related to basic needs support

Evaluation

  • In partnership with the Senior Director of DEI, evaluate services, programs, and outreach annually

Budget and Grant Support

  • In partnership with the Senior Director of DEI, manage a budget, including developing budget proposals, justifying expenses, and monitoring accounts

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience building relationships across constituencies
  • Previous work or lived experience navigating systems that provide services to meet housing and food insecurities
  • Communication skills that include leading dialogue across constituencies
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, critical thinking, and listening skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Experience working with diverse populations and an understanding of the equity gap in basic needs support for historically excluded populations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual or multilingual
  • Experience with trauma-informed care
  • Bachelor’s Degree

Salary: Hourly wage: $16.00 - $20.00
