Job Description:

This position will be based in the Department of Pediatrics and will support the work and strategic research goals of the Chairman. This position requires a broad understanding of policy and administration research, multiple grant funding mechanisms (P’s, R’s, U’s, T’s, K’s etc.), strong experience with federal cost accounting, project development and budgeting. This position will work with VCU staff and researchers across a wide range of expertise and disciplines, including research investigators, technical staff and administrators.

Required Qualifications:

Support, Infrastructure and Planning maximizing departmental and institutional collaboration for research opportunities that advance children’s health.
Working with Chairman of Pediatrics and Department Administrator, coordinate strategic research planning.
Identify, plan and implement new pediatric research and resource initiatives (e.g. interdisciplinary pilot grants working with the Children’s Health Research Initiative and the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation).
Attend meetings and interact with other departments and institutional centers to expand the portfolio, growth, and productivity of all research that includes children/adolescents.
Resolve problems directly, or in consultation with chairman/administrator concerning staffing, utilization of facilities, equipment and funds.
Coordinate federal limited submissions for VCU to develop processes for selecting the grant/research proposal with the greatest chance for funding.
Supervise the team of research administrative staff supporting both pre and post award administration.
Pediatric Research Communications and Outreach (coordinated with the Vice Chair of Research)
Cores - Financial and Policy Oversight.
Working with the department administrator, recommend distribution and allocation of general department resources related to research.
Prepare reports for management review.
Supervise pediatric research staff, providing leadership and team support and oversight for pre- and post-award processes
Make staffing recommendations, interview and screen applicants for hiring.
Maintain knowledge of existing resources for support of research activity.

Bachelor's required

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in relevant discipline
